For better performance of the media, its necessary to have free and fair media atmosphere in the nation. Its really difficult to perform the excellent work without freedom of the press as Ravish says”Dara hua media mara hua nagrik taiyar karta hai”(Terrified press gives birth to dead citizens)
Free and fair media helps the government to stay on its right path of public welfare. If the government deviates from its path,free press has the power to force the government to run on its track.

मीडिया सरकार और जनता के बीच कड़ी का काम करता है। यह सरकार के उद्देश्यों को जनता तक पहुंचाता है और सरकार के प्रति जनता की भावनाओं को दर्शाता है। अगर मीडिया अपनी क्षमता के अनुसार अपना कर्तव्य निभाये तो जनता के मन में मीडिया के प्रति बहुत सम्मान और विश्वास होता है, जबकि सरकार भी इसके लिए खुद को सतर्क और अद्यतन रखती है।
मीडिया के बेहतर प्रदर्शन के लिए देश में स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष मीडिया माहौल का होना आवश्यक है। प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता के बिना उत्कृष्ट कार्य करना वास्तव में कठिन है, जैसा कि रवीश कहते हैं, “डरा हुआ मीडिया मरा हुआ नागरिक तैयार करता है|”
स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष मीडिया सरकार को जन कल्याण के सही रास्ते पर बने रहने में मदद करता है। यदि सरकार अपने रास्ते से भटकती है, तो स्वतंत्र प्रेस सरकार को अपने रास्ते पर चलने के लिए मजबूर करने की शक्ति रखता है।

बेहतर लोकतंत्र में मीडिया की भूमिका

संतुलित और रचनात्मक मीडिया देश के नागरिकों में नागरिक भावना विकसित करने में मदद करता है। मीडिया सरकार और जनता दोनों के लिए मार्गदर्शक की भूमिका में है|
यह जिम्मेदार मीडिया समूहों का कर्तव्य है कि वे देश में लोकतांत्रिक मूल्यों को विकसित करने पर ध्यान दें। उन्हें सरकार को ऐसा रास्ता दिखाना चाहिए जिससे देश के नागरिकों का सर्वांगीण विकास हो सके। सरकार को सही रास्ते पर रखना देशभक्ति का कार्य है।

मीडिया का कर्त्तव्य

उसी प्रकार, जिम्मेदार मीडिया का यह कर्तव्य है कि वह सक्षम, जिम्मेदार और जागरूक नागरिक तैयार करने का लक्ष्य रखे। सक्षम, जिम्मेदार और जागरूक नागरिक राष्ट्र-निर्माण के लिए उपयुक्त माध्यम हैं। लोकतंत्र की गुणवत्ता मीडिया की गुणवत्ता पर निर्भर करती है। मीडिया को सरकार के साथ नहीं रहना चाहिए, विपक्ष की भूमिका मीडिया के लिए सबसे उपयुक्त है।
