Ugly face of democracy in recent times

There is no doubt that democracy is a beautiful concept. But today, I would like to enumerate some of the incidents that show the ugly face of democracy.

Audacity of Donald Trump

The most striking example of ugly face of democracy was seen in USA when former US president Donald Trump refused to accept the results of president-election in 2020. Donald Trump was defeated comfortably by Joe Biden, but he was reluctant to step down from the post of president
Trump incited his supporters to indulge in violence and for creating unruly scenes in the country. How pathetic and surprising is this that someone used his support of people against the principles of democracy. Thanks to the responsible, free and fair institutions of the land that much damage was not done by that foolish act.
This is the first example of ugly face of democracy when some leader may use the support of people for damaging the principles of democracy. Its really dangerous to declare that people want to see him/her in the power when that person has lost in the election. The like and dislike in a democracy is decided by the election rather than by hooliganism and violence.

Defndencies in Indian politics

The second example of ugly face of democracy is from India.People express their choice of candidates through general election. They elect the candidate of their choice and show their faith in the policies of some party but they feel cheated when the candidate of their choice change his/her loyality after winning the election. By the use of money power, by showing the fear of investigation-agencies and for vested interest horse-trading is done against the will of the people.

Conclusion

These are two methods that show the ugly face of democracy. In the first example, muscle-power is involved and in the second example, money-power is involved. Both the things are not good for the good face of the democracy. The face of democracy is beautiful only when the government is formed as per the mandate of the people.

इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि लोकतंत्र एक सुंदर अवधारणा है। लेकिन आज, मैं कुछ ऐसी घटनाओं का जिक्र करना चाहूंगा जो लोकतंत्र का बदसूरत चेहरा दिखाती हैं।

ट्रम्प का दुस्साहस

लोकतंत्र के बदसूरत चेहरे का सबसे ज्वलंत उदाहरण संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में देखा गया जब पूर्व अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने 2020 में राष्ट्रपति-चुनाव के परिणामों को स्वीकार करने से इनकार कर दिया। डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प को जो बिडेन ने आसानी से हरा दिया, लेकिन वह पद से हटने के लिए अनिच्छुक थे|
राष्ट्रपति ट्रम्प ने अपने समर्थकों को हिंसा में शामिल होने और देश में अशोभनीय दृश्य पैदा करने के लिए उकसाया। यह कितना दयनीय और आश्चर्य की बात है कि किसी ने लोकतंत्र के सिद्धांतों के खिलाफ लोगों के समर्थन का इस्तेमाल किया। जिम्मेदार, स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष संस्थानों को धन्यवाद दिया जाना चाहिए जिन्होंने उस मूर्खतापूर्ण कृत्य से देश को उतना नुकसान नहीं होने दिया जितना सम्भावना नजर आ रही थी।
यह लोकतंत्र के बदसूरत चेहरे का पहला उदाहरण है जब कोई नेता लोकतंत्र के सिद्धांतों को नुकसान पहुंचाने के लिए लोगों के समर्थन का इस्तेमाल कर सकता है। यह घोषणा करना वाकई खतरनाक है कि लोग उसे सत्ता में देखना चाहते हैं जबकि वह व्यक्ति चुनाव हार गया हो। .लोकतंत्र में पसंद और नापसंद गुंडागर्दी और हिंसा से नहीं बल्कि चुनाव से तय होती है.

भारत में दलबदल का दलदल

लोकतंत्र के बदसूरत चेहरे का दूसरा उदाहरण भारत से है। लोग आम चुनाव के माध्यम से उम्मीदवारों की अपनी पसंद को व्यक्त करते हैं। वे अपनी पसंद के उम्मीदवार को चुनते हैं और किसी पार्टी की नीतियों में अपना विश्वास दिखाते हैं लेकिन जब उनकी पसंद का उम्मीदवार जितने पर अपनी वफादारी बदल कर अपना दल बदल लेता है तो वे ठगा सा महसूस करते हैं।
धन-बल का प्रयोग करके, जांच-एजेंसियों का डर दिखाकर और निहित स्वार्थ के लिए लोगों की इच्छा के विरुद्ध खरीद-फरोख्त की जाती है।
ये दो तरीके हैं जो लोकतंत्र का बदसूरत चेहरा दिखाते हैं। पहले उदाहरण में बाहुबल शामिल है और दूसरे उदाहरण में धन-बल शामिल है।

निष्कर्ष

दोनों ही चीजें लोकतंत्र के अच्छे चेहरे के लिए अच्छी नहीं हैं। लोकतंत्र का चेहरा तभी सुंदर होता है जब सरकार जनता के जनादेश के अनुसार बनती है।
